Horse-box are expensive to purchase, but it does not have to be expensive to maintain. Once you give it a regular clean and service, your horse-box should serve you and your beloved horse for many many years. Here are a few tips you can do to help you to make the most of you horse-box
Wait until the floor is completely dry before replacing the mats – a small sprinkling of baking soda can help to neutralize urine and prevent damage.
One of the best ways to prolong the life of your box or trailer is to store it indoors. If this isn’t possible then consider purchasing a cover for when it’s not in use.
Consider investing in a truck box – these can store a lot of gear and help to keep everything tidy and organized.
Think about installing shelving to maximize unused space – or at least adding hooks that you can use for things like tails, halters, bridles and extension cords.

Minimize the risks of accidents when transporting horses by giving your horse box or lorry a once over to check everything is safe and ready to go:
Clean out all bedding, hay etc.
Inspect the floor and check the rubber-matting isn’t coming away from the floor.
Check the lights are all working correctly.
Grease the hitch, check the brake cable and grease the jockey-wheel.
Check the ramp for any damage.
Check the partitions for any damage.
Check all tyres.
Make sure the spare wheel is in good condition and secure.
Check reflectors.
Wash the exterior of the horse box or lorry.
Windows – inspect for cracks and rust. You should be able to open and close them with ease and The screens should be solidly set in place.
Flooring – check for signs of damage and make sure that any rubber matting is secure and isn’t coming away from the floor.
Latches/hinges – make sure they are functioning properly.
Lights – have someone help you to test that all the lights are working and replace any defunct bulbs.
Tyres – make sure they’re in good condition without any cracks or wear, with good tread depth and inflated to the correct pressure.
